A Bit About Me!

Journal Entry: Thu Sep 28, 2006, 8:41 PM

Welcome to my DA Gallery!
My name is Selina Fenech, and have been a professional artist since about 2000, but of course have been drawing for much, much longer. Some of the oldest artworks my mum still has of mine are from as far back as two years old!
I'm a big nerd, and love anything in that cult genre, anything fantasy, of course, comics, RPG's, computer stuff, you name it. But the biggest obsession of course is fantasy and fairies, which dominate everything I create.
I'm from Australia, and was born in 1981. I'm a girl, and I have one pet cat with no name :) and I'm short.

I mostly work in watercolours with a few other mediums thrown in for good measure. Sometimes gouache, sometimes ink, sometimes pencil, whatever I think I need. I also sometimes do artworks in graphite along for black and white artworks.

My work can be seen here, on elfwood, epilogue, enchanted artists, artwanted, Australian fantasy art enclave, and probably many more sites.
The most important site you can see my work is my home page!! [link] SelinaFenech dot com!!
My work is licensed with many companies, so you might see it around! Stickers, card decks, cross stitch, bookmarks, greeting cards, t-shirts, figurines, that sort of thing.
It's all very exciting, lol!

I'm still working hard to improve my artwork, I've got a long way to go yet!
I look up to the older generation of fantasy artists greatly. Alan lee, Froud, any and all artists at Duirwaigh Gallery.

I don't use the journal here much, I do all my ranting over in Live Journal at [link]

YES!! I sell prints! In many sizes! Also greeting cards, bookmarks, keyrings, stickers, mouse pads, jewellery, tote bags, and all sorts of other yummy products with my artwork on!

Professional. I don't like that word, because on other galleries, so called professional artists are bad mouthed. I think there shouldn't be any title for artists.
Just generally speaking of the word.

Your art is amazing. :) I love to watch your art. I hope I manage to grow in artist way.
keep the great work up!

It's strange that the word "professional" when attached to the word "artist" seems to get bad mouthed so much. The way I'm using it I believe is a purely objective way, refering to career rather than any aspect of my artwork itself. Meaning that it is my career, I don't have any other job, and earn my living from my art.
I don't think in that way there is any thing wrong with using the term "professional".

How did you become a 'proffesional' artist and get your artwork on so many different things? My boyfriend's an aspiring artist and wants to make it a thriving career, thats why I was asking. I dont know exactly what he wants to do, but I know as long as he gets to paint and draw he wont really care. He's just really worried that he'll get through school and look at the rest of his life thinking, "Now what?"
I really dont want that to happen to him, so if you could help me out and slip me a few pointers, or even a connection? Whatever you can or want to; everything's helpful right now! Thanx!

By the way, I absolutely ADORE your work.

You have a point. I meant only that some professionals thinks their big shot or something like that.
