^_^ Another totally different artwork, lol.
This was fun! First time in a while I actually really enjoyed the painting process itself. This is all acrylics on canvas board.
I didn't really know what I was doing with it, as it was mostly just a bit of a fun experiment to start with.
I was thinking along the lines of a storybookish/Royo style for it (I love his glowiness!).
I did an underpainting in burnt sienna, the only colour I had in acrylics close to a sort of neutral sepia. But it was actually a lot redder than I wanted for that... BUT I kind of liked how it looked, so kept the very red colour range for the artwork, and didn't do too much more to it after the underpainting, just some deeper shadows in raw umber and ultramarine, a bit of red, and a warm white for the glowy highlights!
I probably could do more to it, but it was fun as is, and I don't want to ruin it by going further!

As for the subject matter... it's a bit spooky huh?! I think it popped out of my head because I've been reading "The Alphabet Vs The Goddess".
It's about how the alphabet and it's use has lead to more masculine based culture and religions. There is so much in it about the many terrible ways women have been persecuted and abused and enslaved in just about every culture throughout history. I guess it got me all fired up ^_^

You know, if you liked the book you read, there's an amazing one called "The Women's Encyclopedia of Myths and Secrets" by Barbara G. Walker. I believe EVERY women should read it, it tells you so much about the secret history our society denies today, the true story of Woman...

I am in love with your gallery. This piece... oh the emotion in it--you've portrayed it so well. Her head piece is beautiful and the ominous background just makes me feel horrible for the poor girl. Fantastic!!
